They can occur in a variety of bodily sites like in the colon, in the nasal sinuses, or even in the gallbladder. In gynecology, the polyps are usually located in the uterus or in the cervix

WHERE DO THEY DEVELOP

Uterine polyps arise from the endometrium, the inner lining of the uterus or from the cervix, the mouth of the womb and rarely from the vaginal wall.

WHAT SYMPTOMS DO ENDOMETRIAL POLYP GIVE

  • May be completely asymptomatic
  • Heavy periods
  • Bleeding between periods
  • Occasionally, large polyps can cause menstrual-type cramps

WHAT SYMPTOMS DO CERVICAL POLYP GIVE

  • May be asymptomatic
  • Spotting between periods
  • Bleeding with intercourse.

WHAT SYMPTOMS DO VAGINAL POLYP/CYST GIVE

  • May be asymptomatic
  • Bleeding during sex
  • Lumpy feeling in the vagina
Most polyps are benign, a small proportion of polyps are malignant, or cancerous. Generally, polyps are more likely to be dangerous if they occur in women after menopause
